It’s fair to say that Firefly Photography’s Newborn Art Experience is very popular… this may be because we only book ten newborns a month to ensure we have enough time for each Babe and their family or it may be because we’re able to create stunning newborn art imagery within our studios based on Friar Gate in Derby city centre and Curborough Countryside Centre in Lichfield.
Our Newborn Art Experience is a slow moving session and normally takes around 3-4 hours on the day followed by a few hours in post production depending on what needs doing to the imagery. During this time you will receive a consultation, about the style of imagery you would like to create, around 90 minutes in the studio (depending how quickly we can get your newborn to sleep!) and a same day viewing and ordering session… Our experience price of £39 also includes a complimentary 8″ framed shelf portrait (worth £95) to get you started. We always aim to photograph Babe’s within the first 14 days of being born – but why is this?
Safety in newborn photography is our first concern (followed closely by creating stunning
images!). When a baby is born their bones are quite soft however they harden very quickly once they’ve entered the world. For newborns to be photographed within those iconic position everybody knows and loves as “newborn art” we still need the soft bones as this makes them a lot more mouldable. As soon as the bones start to harden it is no longer safe to be trying out these positions due to bones hardening. It is very easy to “scrunch” a newborn, and create images in half of the time we spend with you, but if they are too “old” then it is no longer safe to do these positions.
When coming to Firefly for a Newborn Art Experience it’s always good to spend ten minutes reading through the information we send you via email. It will answer the obvious questions such as directions, car parking along with product range & prices but it will also ask you to have a think about the style of imagery you would like to create… This really helps our photography team prepare for your shoot in terms of which props to use and which backgrounds to put up for you on the day of your shoot. You can also personalise your shoot and ideas include booties and teddies as well as daddy’s guitar and one family of triathletes bringing in their trainers and helmets… you can even search for ideas via Pinterest. These ideas really allow you to personalise your shoot to you and your family and, if you are looking at creating wall art for your home, choose props and colour schemes that will compliment the space you’re wanting to put your photographs in.
Wherever you choose to have your newborn photographed, obviously make sure that your photographer is established and able to safely handle your newborn, but also make sure that you’re able to capture these moments that will, very shortly, become a snippet in time and a long lasting memory of the first couple of weeks with your newborn. For more information about capturing your little one’s first year (newborn, sitting, crawling, toddling) please see our Watch Me experience or visit our FB page to see the most-up-to-date imagery and reviews.
