Derby SANDS is Firefly Photography’s chosen charity for 2018. Here’s a first hand account of why their work is so important and why we’re proud to support all that they do.
Our story. Me and Nathan met through friends, we had been going out just over a year and we went to London to see a show (we will rock You) as you do walking to the hotel a gypsie stopped us and told us we were having a boy! We hadn’t been trying and had no idea that I was even pregnant! Everything went fine and 8 months later we had Spencer. We started trying for another baby when Spencer was 3, nothing happened for ages then we found out we was pregnant, we got engaged Christmas eve and all was great but sadly this wasn’t to be and I suffered my first miscarriage January 2nd 2015. After a few months we started trying again and went on to conceive and lose, again it happened, 3 miscarriages and we finally gave up trying to focus on the wedding, I brought my wedding dress the end of August 2015. I had been throwing self in to slimming world and also the gym. And Spencer was keeping us busy. I had convinced myself that they were girls after successfully having a boy as this was my way of swing with it.
One morning I woke and something just felt funny and I went to the bathroom and spotted a left over pregnancy test. ( I had brought so many before they were all over the place in our house! ) And it was positive, hard to get excited as the miscarriages had all taken place between 8-11 weeks. I only told nathan and phoned the hospital EPU (early preg unit) I got booked in for a early scan. Convinced it was going to be an empty sac again I told nathan not to bother coming as he had work and even took Spencer and another little girl I look after with me. I was so nervous as I was waiting to go in. I was only around 6 weeks by now and lying there watching the ladies face as I was avoiding the screen she gave a little smile and told me to look. As tiny as the little blob was there was a good heart beating:) I had another scan about 2 weeks later and all was fine, amazing how quick they form! We even went for a 3D scan to find out the sex . Jessica kept us waiting after her due date by 13 days and was born at home in a paddling pool.
Due to not knowing what was round the corner we didn’t postpone the wedding. Nor the holiday to Butlins!
She had her first holiday at 10 days old!
She was also a special flower girl at our wedding when she was 7 weeks old. (And I wore the original dress I brought before finding out I was pregnant).
Crazy how it’s all worked out, got one of each and feel so blessed. After a storm is the perfect rainbow!”
